Misumi Skincare Review
Key products
Misumi Skincare key products can be found in the Complete Clear 3-Step System, which includes the AHA 10% Skin Perfecting Cleanser, Pore Purifying Toner, and Wrinkle-Free All Day Moisturizer with SPF 30.
The AHA 10% Skin Perfecting Cleanser was developed to fight blemishes and blackheads, while reducing age spots and wrinkles. It is said to remove makeup, dead skin cells, and excess oil. In addition to washing away these impurities, AHA 10% Skin Perfecting Cleanser helps to improve skin hydration and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The Pore Purifying Toner is claimed to shrink pores and balance pH levels, while tightening and protecting the skin. It is also said that using this product after washing your face can help “close the poresâ€. However, this is impossible because pores don’t have muscles around their opening to allow them to open and close. Despite this false claim, the Pore Purifying Toner may help to minimize the appearance of enlarged pores due to the astringent ingredient in its formula.
The Wrinkle-Free All Day Moisturizer with SPF 30 contains two sunscreen ingredients: zinc oxide and octyl methoxycinnamate. In addition to protecting against UV rays, this facial moisturizer is non-comedogenic and helps to lock in moisture.
In addition to these key products, Misumi Skincare also offers the Clear Skin Salicylic Cleanser and the Blemish Clear Body Wash. The Clear Skin Salicylic Cleanser is an oil-free cleanser that works to polish away dullness and removes excess oil and dirt without causing dryness or stripping the skin of its natural oil balance. It contains three acids that function as chemical exfoliants: glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid. Blemish Clear Body Wash contains the same three acids in its formula, and is said to help treat acne and achieve clearer, smoother, and even-toned skin on body areas including back, neck, shoulders, arms, and more.
Key formulation
Misumi Skincare believes that safe and natural products simulate and accelerate the skin’s natural healing processes, which is why they use natural ingredients in their formulas. However, it’s important to note that Misumi Skincare products are not 100% natural. In fact, many of their formulations contain numerous synthetic ingredients, such as silicones, PEG ingredients, synthetic preservatives, synthetic film-forming agents, and more. While synthetic does not necessarily mean these ingredients are toxic or harmful, we just wanted to point this out since Misumi Skincare is conveyed as a natural skincare brand.
Misumi Skincare uses alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) in several of their products, including the AHA 10% Skin Perfecting Cleanser and the Blemish Clear Body Wash. AHAs, such as glycolic acid and lactic acid, exfoliate the skin by targeting corneocytes (dead skin cells that make up the stratum corneum) in a process called corneocyte desquamation. By enhancing their breakdown and increasing the separation of skin cells, the rate of cell turnover is increased, leading to smoother, more radiant skin.
One thing to note with the Misumi Skincare Pore Purifying Toner is that it contains a high concentration of witch hazel. Witch hazel is a source of several types of antioxidants, including tannins. Tannins are phenolic compounds rich in hydroxy residues that impart astringent properties, resulting in a constricting and drying effect when applied to the skin. They work by cross-linking with keratin proteins, creating an invisible film that can temporarily degrease skin, tighten and tone skin, and minimize the appearance of enlarged pores. However, it should be noted that tannins can cause irritation and sensitization reactions with some people. Plus, there are several more botanical extracts in the Pore Purifying Toner that have the potential to cause sensitization, including lemon peel, comfrey leaf, and lavender.
In addition to the Pore Purifying Toner, lavender essential oil is used in several other Misumi Skincare products, which can be problematic for some people. This is because lavender contains fragrance components, such as linalool and linalyl acetate, which are known to cause skin sensitization and irritation. When exposed to air, these components oxidize, meaning their potential for causing a reaction increases.
