Beauty Routine: Christina Hendricks

The first thing you notice about Hendricks is her astonishingly perfect red hair--so how does she keep it that way? “I like to use Pureology Serious Color Care Shampoo ($31) and Conditioner ($33) in Reviving Red,” she says.

“I'm an old-fashioned girl who still uses hot rollers,” Hendricks says. She also layers on products to protect her strands from the heat. “I start with Aveda’s Volumizing Spray ($22), set my hair with Redken’s Spray Starch (Discontinued), and then take my rollers out and finish with Oscar Blandi’s Texture and Volume Spray (Discontinued).” The latter adds volume without the stiffness of hair spray.

Now for that skin. Hendricks’ routine varies, but she’s currently washing her face with Lancome’s Huile Douceur Deep Cleansing Oil (Discontinued), followed by Dr. Hauschka’s Facial Toner ($37)--“it smells like roses!”--and La Prairie’s Cellular Power Serum ($560). “I finish with either Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil ($49) or a rich night cream by 3Lab,” she says (try The Perfect Cream ($210) by 3Lab).

Given her complexion, it’s not surprising that Hendricks is fanatical about sunscreen: “I wear Skinceuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 ($34) on my face every single day.”

Hendricks has fun with makeup--even when she’s not in front of a camera. She starts with DiorSkin’s Nude Skin-Glowing Foundation (Discontinued) and Bloom’s Sheer Colour Cream ($24) in Who Me. “Great blush, great flush, great name,” she says.

What won’t Hendricks leave the house without? “I can't get enough of Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment ($23) in Rose. It feels wonderful and has a perfect tint to it,” she says. The actress turns to Kosmea’s Rosewater Hydrating Mist ($25) for “a lovely, refreshing pick-me-up in the middle of the day.”

If she’s going to play up her eyes, Hendricks favors something smoky. “I love Mally’s Eyeliner (Discontinued) in Black Cherry; it has a great smooth texture and is deeply pigmented,” she says. Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow (Discontinued) in Prelude does the rest, and Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash Mascara ($20) tops it off.

“People always think I wear red lipstick on Mad Men,” Hendricks says, “but it’s actually quite rare.” Pink, it turns out, is the key to Joan Holloway’s pout. “I’m most often in Laura Mercier’s Lipstick ($26) in Baby Lips, or a coral of some kind.” She favors Dolce & Gabbana’s Lipstick ($32) in Cosmopolitan for the latter and if she is going to go red, it’s Sensai’s Lasting Treatment Rouge ($60) in Soubi, “a wonderful, creamy, tomato red.”

Hendricks is currently filming with Ryan Gosling and Saoirse Ronan in Detroit, where makeup artist Leo Won’s taught her the wonders of color correcting, specifically Smashbox’s Color Correcting Foundation Primer ($39) in Green. “I’m very fair with pink undertones and this evens me out enough that I don’t even wear foundation in the film!”

Her love of Fresh extends into Hendricks’ shower. The actress uses the brand’s Sake Bath ($82), as well as their Milk Body Lotion ($23). Post-moisturizer, she’ll slather on Dermalogica’s Solar Defense Booster Sunscreen ($55).

Depending on the season, Hendricks spritzes a different perfume, all from L’Artisan Parfumeur. “For summer I love Mure et Musc ($1165) or Premier Figiuer (Discontinued); for the fall and winter I love L’Eau d’Ambre ($165).”
