Our Favorite Beauty Looks from The 2020 BET Awards

With the bulk of "award-show season" occurring in the first couple months of the year, many of the major events of 2020 got to have their ceremonies before the international call for gatherings large and small to be canceled in response to the coronavirus pandemic. It's almost impossible to imagine a show honoring entertainment achievements in the current climate — no red carpet, no rows filled with shoulder-to-shoulder celebrities, no speeches at podiums or elaborately-produced performances from the stages of large venues.

But for the BET Awards, the show must go on, and rightfully so. Not only does 2020 mark the 20th year of the award show, it also marks the 40th anniversary of Black Entertainment Television. So, to ensure this momentous occasion isn't overlooked, the BET Awards are occurring virtually.

Megan Thee Stallion accepted the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist looking fully glamorous, with a classic, deep red lip, super long, middle-parted hair, and glowing skin. And shout-out to presenter Marsai Martin for looking fabulous with her new blonde-highlighted hair.

We couldn't be less surprised that Tracee Ellis Ross came through with one of the cutest beauty looks of the night. The actor and hair-care entrepreneur joined the virtual party wearing the prettiest hot-pink lipstick with her baby hairs swooped and swirled to perfection. (Something tells us she used Pattern's new Edge Control to make that happen.)

Nominee and presenter Lizzo wore an updo that was all about contrasting textures. The base of her style was as sleek as can be, while the rest of the look included the most incredible coils. She kept her makeup a low-key glam, letting her glowing skin be the focal point of her face.

Jennifer Hudson's performance of "Young, Gifted, and Black" was a full-on show- stopper, and you could make the same argument about her gorgeous hairstyle. The updo brought her locs swirling together like an asymmetrical crown. Her stunning makeup made a major impact, too, especially with her dramatically winged green liner and soft, peachy-pink lipstick.

Alicia Keys's lyrics about police violence against Black people were among some of the most profound words heard throughout the entire night, and she kept us transfixed for the entire song. We had to rewatch to fully appreciate her beautiful hairstyle, with its geometrically patterned sides and swooping baby hairs. We also couldn't help but notice Keys was wearing a little more makeup than usual — most notably a highlighted brow bone.

As usual, Chloe x Halle looked chic as ever during their unforgettable two-song performance. We love their matching half-up hairstyles, but we're especially obsessed with Halle's eyeliner. That sharp-as-can-be inner corner? Trying that tomorrow, thankyouverymuch.

The Queen video-chatted into the ceremony to accept her Humanitarian Award from no other than Michelle Obama. Beyoncé opted for a soft glam look with bronzy lids, a glowy base, and glossy nude lip.

Speaking of Obama, when she virtually joined the awards to present Beyoncé's award she was wearing her natural hair — a look we're not so used to seeing on her. The former First Lady wore some tight curls and neutral makeup while a wearing a black blazer with silver hoops.
