Berbatov wants United to target Mbappe and Haaland

Dimitar Berbatov has recommended some big-name signings for Manchester United this summer, including Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

The former United striker was asked by the Express who he would target during the transfer window, with the Bulgarian providing some big names.

For a striker, and it’s pretty much impossible to happen, but if I was a manager in an alternative world, I would probably try to make Haaland and Mbappe, one of these two players for the striker position because I like to watch them.

In the midfield I would go for Verratti as well, I like Marco Verratti I just think he’s unbelievable on the ball with everything he is doing.

Carragher defends Tuchel to United suggestion

Jamie Carragher has defended his view that Manchester United should target Thomas Tuchel as their new manager.

The former Liverpool defender has received backlash from Chelsea fans after he responded to Roman Abramovich being hit by sanctions by the UK government. Carragher though hit back at them on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.

I had a few heated discussions at Stamford Bridge yesterday. I wouldn’t change my opinion on it.

The reason why I think it’s a little bit hypocritical of Chelsea supporters is that if teams, whether that’s Manchester United with the manager or people thinking they can get Chelsea players are going to take advantage that they’re in right now, Chelsea have been doing that for 20 years. That was the big thing of Roman Abramovich coming.

So if I give an opinion of another club taking advantage of them, that’s just a way of life. I don’t want Chelsea to go to the wall. But if that’s my opinion of it, I don’t want Chelsea fans the next time I go there questioning that opinion because that is exactly what Chelsea have done for the last 20 years.

Rangnick 'makes huge offer' to Akanji

Ralf Rangnick has reportedly offered Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji a big salary to try and lure him to Manchester United.

Akanji has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the defender having previously spoken of his desire to play for the club.

United 'considering' fresh move for Harry Kane

Manchester United are reportedly considering a fresh move for Harry Kane this summer.

The Tottenham striker came close to joining Man City last summer, only for Spurs to hold firm and not let him make the move to the Etihad.

But the England captain is set to be a wanted man again this summer, and the Mirror are suggesting he could link back up with Mauricio Pochettino at Old Trafford.

Pochettino is of course one of the frontrunners to become United's new permanent manager, and with the Reds looking for a new striker as well, they've reportedly reignited their interest in Kane.

United 'considering' Old Trafford redevelopment plans

Manchester United's iconic Old Trafford stadium could be knocked down and rebuilt under 'plans being considered' by the club.

That is according to a report by The Telegraph, who claim that United are close to appointing preferred partners for what could be the biggest redevelopment project in the club's rich and colourful history. The decision has been made after an exhaustive tender process was carried out in which those bidding were asked to put forward three different resign proposals.

Of the proposals submitted, the most ambitions is for Old Trafford to be completely rebuilt. If the club pressed ahead with the move, a new, larger stadium would be built on a reconfigured site. It is claimed that it would be large enough to rival Wembley's 90,000 capacity.

OPINION: Ralf Rangnick may have been proven wrong about what Manchester United need

Ralf Rangnick has made no secret of his greatest demand for Manchester United in his short time as interim manager.

In the three months that have followed, Rangnick’s success has often been judged on whether United have managed to find that control, but as he returned to that press room on Saturday for the first time since his introductory press conference, it was to toast a victory once again built on chaos.

Diogo Dalot reveals 'demanding' Ralf Rangnick tactical advice given to Manchester United

Following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the aftermath of the 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road, United confirmed that they planned to install a temporary manager until the end of the campaign. They did attempt to lure Mauricio Pochettino to the club from Paris Saint-Germain but saw their efforts fail.

Ralf Rangnick explains why he is not worried about Cristiano Ronaldo

Ralf Rangnick is confident Cristiano Ronaldo can inspire Manchester United to another victory as they attempt to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the third time in the last 10 years.

Ronaldo scored his second United hat-trick in the uplifting 3-2 win over Tottenham on Saturday amid speculation over his future at the club. Rangnick is believed to have doubts about Ronaldo's role at United and has advised the club to target a younger striker in the summer transfer window.

Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to former Manchester United team-mate Patrice Evra's claim about the five-time Ballon d'Or not being the problem behind the Reds' struggles this season.

Several pundits and well-known figures have felt that Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford has been the catalyst behind United's below-par campaign, whether it be because of his status within the game or his age.

Berbatov backs United to sign Rudiger

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes his old club should go and sign out-of-contract Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

The German, who has frequently been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, is out-of-contract in the summer and the current uncertainty at Stamford Bridge means that they may not be allowed to offer him a new deal.

For Berbatov, he would be a "good fit" at Old Trafford. He told the Express:

"You mentioned one name, Rudiger, now I'm concentrated on him. I cannot think of anyone else.

"Based on his performances, he is a good fit honestly. He is aggressive, he is good on the ball, so he can be a good choice."

OPINION: Ralf Rangnick has made a damning statement on Manchester United's transfer policy

Manchester United have spent £140m on right-wingers in two seasons and yet the two players that are set to play in that role for the remainder of the season are academy products. United have made a catalogue of transfer mistakes over the last decade.

United have been wasteful spenders. The club has spent £1billion in the transfer market since 2013 but there are only three trophies (FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League) to show for it. That's hardly a return on investment. United's calamitous transfer mistakes are the reason why the club has hopelessly meandered. The decision-makers have consistently got the decisions wrong.

Manchester United confirm Diego Forlan return for legends game vs Liverpool

Diego Forlan is set to return to Old Trafford after Manchester United announced the first part of their squad for a charity match against Liverpool.

Raising funds for the Manchester United Foundation, heroes from bygone years will lace up their boots and battle for bragging rights on Saturday, May 21. Billed as Legends of the North, the game is expected to be packed and will showcase countless famous faces.

Fred and Scott McTominay are barely Anderson and Darren Fletcher, never mind Paul Ince and Roy Keane. Whoever the next Manchester United manager is, their futures are still assured.

Both have been overplayed the last few years, a consequence of the midfield malaise at a club that has not signed an outright central midfielder since Fred checked in for a medical on the eve of the 2018 World Cup.

McTominay has since signed two new contracts since. Perversely, Fred has not received a renewal.

Atletico name squad for United Champions League clash

Atletico Madrid will be without two key players for their Champions League match against Manchester United on Tuesday night.

United are set to welcome Atletico to Old Trafford in the last 16 second leg in the Champions League. United will be hoping to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 2019 when Barcelona proved a step too far.

Ralf Rangnick's side struggled in the first half of the reverse leg against Atletico but Anthony Elanga's second-half goal salvaged a draw at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. United beat Tottenham 3-2 at the weekend - that was an ideal response after their humiliation in the Manchester derby — and they'll be hoping to build on that important win with another strong performance.

Maguire's former teammate urges United to strip his captaincy

Former Egypt international Ahmed Elmohamady has urged Manchester United to strip his old Hull City teammate Harry Maguire of the captain's armband.

Maguire, 29, has struggled for form all season long and endured another difficult outing on Saturday evening when he netted a calamitous own goal in the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The captaincy issue has been discussed throughout the season at Old Trafford, with many pundits suggesting Maguire be removed from his position at the club.

Now, former Hull teammate Elmohamady has had his say on the debate and explained why he doesn't think Maguire should remain as United captain.

Sancho has been brilliant for United since the winter break.

"He is now recognisable as the Jadon Sancho I have known since he was 18,” said Rangnick

“Jadon Sancho is now getting closer to the Jadon Sancho I've known from Germany. In the end it's all about confidence. Game time, confidence. Confidence, game time. He was performing at a very high level.

“We can only be successful as a team. If you're not being successful, if you're not playing well as a team, tell me one single player in football who can still develop his own career. It's impossible. It's only possible with raising the level of performance of the whole team. This is what happened [against Spurs].

Tuchel gives fresh update on Chelsea future

Thomas Tuchel has insisted he will not leave Chelsea before the end of the season, despite rumours linking him with Manchester United.

After Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Tuchel has seen his name linked with United, with a number of changes expected at Stamford Bridge. Although the club have been given a special license to continue playing football until the end of the season, they will be unable to sign or sell players when the transfer window opens.

Given that uncertainty, a number of big names have been linked with exits, including Tuchel. And with United in the process of hiring a new permanent manager, the German has emerged as another possibility.
