How to Take Care of Your Skin After Sun Exposure?

Sun burn

You have had a sunburn and your skin is red, sensitive and painful on the surface. Sunburn not only damages the DNA in your cells, but also the collagen and elastin in your skin. The devastating effects of the sun are cumulative and cause long-term physical changes such as sagging tissues, the appearance of wrinkles and even skin cancer. This is why it is important to calm the skin, but also to repair and protect it.

Step 1: Soothe

To instantly bring more comfort to the skin, directly apply a refreshing compress for 5 minutes on the affected area. For this, choose a lotion based on anti-inflammatory and decongestant floral waters that will calm the local inflammation to reduce redness and burning sensations.

Step 2: Repair

To repair and protect your skin, use a regenerating and calming oil rich in vitamin E. It will soothe the sensitivity and discomfort associated with sunburn, repair the skin protection barrier while facilitating the regeneration of the epidermis.

Step 3: Protect

During the day, apply and reapply a mineral FSP 30 sunscreen every 90 minutes. It is important to double your protection on burned areas. Compared to chemical sun protection, mineral sun protection will be better tolerated by hypersensitive skin.

Dry Skin

The sun dries your skin. After exposure to the sun, your skin may also appear thicker and rougher. Before hydrating dry skin, it is important to get rid of dead skin, both on the face and on the body.

Step 1: Gently exfoliate

Exfoliate the skin of the body in the shower using an exfoliating glove or an exfoliating body treatment. For the face, use a gentle exfoliant based on vegetable enzymes or cellulose without microbeads and without photo-sensitizing agents. This step will gently get rid of dead cells on the surface, make way for younger cells and facilitate the absorption of moisturizers.

Step 2: Hydrate

Drink lots of water and apply moisturizer to the face and body. Use treatments based on water-capturing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen but also salmon DNA with moisturizing and regenerating properties. Make sure that your moisturizer is rich in antioxidant repairing active ingredients such as vitamin E or vitamin C. In fact, UV builds free radicals which damage our skin during exposure to the sun but also in the hours following exposure. Thus, these active ingredients will protect the skin during exposure and facilitate cell repair in the hours following exposure. As your skin regenerates at night, use your moisturizer in the evening, before bedtime.

Prevent Visible Signs of Premature Aging

Did you know that the sun destroys your collagen fibers and depletes your skin’s vitamin C stores for hours after sun exposure? These effects contribute not only to the appearance of wrinkles, sagging skin but also pigment spots. Vitamin C is an antioxidant vitamin which protects the skin from the oxidizing effects of the sun and which is essential for the proper renewal of collagen. It preserves the youth and vitality of the skin and helps to even out the complexion.

Step 1: Restore your Vitamin C level

Whatever your skin type, use daily, morning and evening, a treatment rich in vitamin C to restore the vitamin C reserves in your skin. It will protect the collagen fibers and strengthen your skin’s defenses against the sun but also facilitate the renewal of collagen after exposure. Vitamin C will also lighten your complexion if you are predisposed to age spots. Choose a treatment based on stabilized and liposomal vitamin C to prevent any oxidation of the molecule and ensure maximum effectiveness.

Step 2: Boost the renewal of collagen

To boost the renewal of collagen and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, choose regenerating and plumping treatments based on pentapeptides, salmon DNA and fragmented hyaluronic acid. Make sure that your treatments are also rich in antioxidants to neutralize the effects of free radicals induced by the sun.

And finally, don’t forget that the best way to prevent sun damage is to protect your skin regularly with SPF 30 sun protection, to be reapplied every 2 hours!
