Award season is in full swing, and with the Golden Globes down and the Oscars still yet to go, stars are beginning to make even more interesting hair and makeup choices on the red carpet. The latest stop on the award season train is the 25th annual Critics' Choice Awards, in which the Broadcast Film Credits Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association give trophies to both film and television stars. That means all your favorites will be walking the red carpet tonight; or, to be more accurate, the blue carpet — the Critics' Choice Awards carpet isn't technically red. That twist on a Hollywood classic must be in the air tonight, because stars are opting for innovative looks courtesy of bright lipstick, colorful shadow shades, and creative hair accessories. (Lucy Hale's stylist Kristin Ess even refashioned a pearl earring into a hair clip.)
Kristen Bell and Eddie Murphy will receive special achievement awards tonight, and we've already seen standout makeup and hair looks in the form of Hale's eye shadow, Lupita Nyong'o's hair, and plenty more. Stars are showing up with glowing skin, like Ashleigh Murray, who made a pre-show stop to see facialist- slash-miracle worker Joanna Vargas.
Lucy Hale has found her color, and it's this gorgeous shade of mint green that's gracing her gown and matching lids. We love the pairing of a nude brown lip with this pastel shade almost as much as her hair, which stylist Kristin Ess clipped in the back with a pearl earring-turned-hair accessory.
Stylist Chris Appleton describes Jennifer Lopez's hair look these evening as “glossy and laid not sprayed.” These juicy curls go all the way down her back.
Master stylist Vernon François coiled gold around Nyong'o's high-rise bun, and perfectly matched it to her bronze shadow and chainmetal earrings. Hopefully, this isn't the only heavy metal Nyong'o will go home with tonight.
Awkwafina is definitely shining bright tonight, thanks to neon yellow eye shadow, a sunny yellow dress, and a red lipstick that I'm going to need the name of immediately. She topped off all that swagger with her hair in loose, soft waves.
Yes, I did scream when I saw Zendaya in a hot pink latex breast plate, thanks for asking. Just in case this look wasn't showstopping enough, she also wore hot pink shadow all the way around her eyes, matched to lighter pink lips and glowy pink blush.
Anne Hathaway kept her signature middle part, but added tons of volume and gloss to her style. She even shot a mirror selfie to give us the rear view.
Chrissy Metz opted for red carpet beauty staples on Sunday night: vivid red lips and bold, super-dark lashes. She kept her hair loose and wavy with a few face- framing layers.
Thanks to Midsommar and Little Women, Florence Pugh is having a year, and she's capping it off by walking the red carpet in a look. She's pulling off a slicked- back wet look, with icy shimmer on her lids and lips.
Renée Zellweger kept her beauty look light this evening, with a modern take on a chignon. She wore sideswept bangs and tucked her hair behind the ears for a loose, soft look, and kept makeup simple and natural-looking.
Alison Brie kept her look sunny in multiple shades of orange. Her shadow, blush, and lipstick brightened up the blue carpet, but I've got my eye on those luscious, thick brows.
Succession's resident ice queen kept her trademark bob on Sunday night and stuck to darker hues for makeup with a deep burgundy lip and thin black liner, all the better to show off her gorgeous green eyes.
Catherine O'Hara makes a strong case for waves, lashes, and a tinted red lip, but best of all, she left her roots intact to reveal the gray hairs growing in around her temples.
Can we please, please make visible gray hair an award season trend? Alex Borstein also let her roots roam free with this romantic wavy style.
