Celebrity Makeup and Hair Looks At The 2020 NAACP Image Awards

Entertainer of the Year nominees like Lizzo and Angela Bassett — who have already endowed us with some seriously gorgeous looks this year at the Grammys and the Oscars — are bringing even more beauty to the Image Awards tonight. Outstanding Actress nominees like Cynthia Erivo uphold their glowing reputations as red-carpet stunners. And Janelle Monae, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Yara Shahidi continue to dazzle us with their bold self-expression through hair and makeup.

Here, you'll find our favorite beauty looks seen on nominees, presenters, and guests who've come to the NAACP Image Awards to celebrate some of the most amazing contributions to entertainment and culture.

Yara Shahidi

Mere hours before Yara Shahidi hit the red carpet, stylist Kendall Dorsey chopped several inches off of the nominee's hair, which was previously reaching past her shoulders. She refreshed her shaped and gave her her a thicker, bolder swath of curly bangs.

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae's makeup was left fresh and simple — a clean, black cat eye with lit-from-within skin — to let her hair be her crowning glory. And we mean that quite literally: her thick braids twist and loop around to create a crown-like shape, suited for the queen she is.

Lizzo's hair is a glorious combination of textures: a gravity-defying Afro behind an off-center bundle of locs atop a straightened, side-swept, '90s- esque tendril. It almost completely steals the attention away from her radiant, gradient purple-to-pink eye shadow — almost.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Makeup artist Vera Steinberg went light on Tracee Ellis Ross's dewy complexion, but she went extra-bold on her eyes and lips. The only thing brighter than her creamy orange lips are her metallic purple lids — a color combination we didn't know we adored until we saw it on her.

Marsai Martin

Already a winner several times over, Marsai Martin deserves yet another award for her shimmering, nearly-iridescent lavender eye shadow. Her middle-parted waves are clipped back with bejeweled barrettes to let her eye makeup literally and metaphorically shine.

Jill Scott

As stunning as Jill Scott's makeup is, with her burgundy winged eye shadow and mulberry-meets-brown lip color, we're even more mesmerized by her multifaceted hairstyle. Her face is framed by beaded braids, which give way to bubble ponytails "pierced" with different-shaped hoop earrings.

Storm Reid

We are nothing short of obsessed with Storm Reid's multicolor eyeliner. At the base of her fluffy lashes is a wing shape with blue-green hues at the outermost point, shifting inward to a bright pink that perfectly matches her softly glossy lips.

It's downright impossible to pick our favorite of H.E.R.'s award-show looks so far this year, but this is definitely a contender. Her middle-parted, soft curls cascade all the way down to her waist, framing her glowing skin, lush lashes, and bold, red lip.

Yvette Nicole Brown

The only thing glowier than Yvette Nicole Brown's complexion is the metallic finish of her makeup. She went with a gorgeous combination of pastels — pale pink on the lips and a silvery green blend with warm undertones on her eyelids — for a look that's somehow both soft and bold.

Merle Dandridge

The jewelry-as-hair-accessories trend is going strong, with Merle Dandridge working a string of pearls — pearls are an especially big hair look this season — into her super-loose, wavy, side-swept, ombré ponytail.
